Plan to replace expats with Kuwaitis E-mail
Wednesday, 03 March 2010
There are all indications the government will suspend the appointment of expatriate personnel in the public sector to reduce the amount of salaries allotted in the budget to maintain international standards, while opening employment opportunities for Kuwaitis, reports Al-Jareeda daily.
The daily quoted a source as saying the Civil Service Commission (CSC) conveyed the purpose to the Council of Ministers, which has in turn issued directives to all ministries and departments for enforcement.

He added the government will appoint expatriates in rare vacant positions where a few Kuwaitis can handle, indicating the government will continue to replace expatriates with Kuwaitis at the average rate of 10 percent annually.

The committee is working to enhance the national manpower, in line with objectives of the Government and Manpower Restructuring Program (GMRP), which has decided to train 3,000 citizens annually for fields in high demand at the labor market, such as administration, information and communications, the source said.
